VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT For Chef/Cook at the Chief of Mission’s Residence (Announcement Number: CMR ORE-23-001)

WORK HOURS:              Full-Time; 54 hours/week

SALARY:                          AED 60,000.00 per annum

Benefits are paid in addition to base salary – benefits include:

  • Annual Miscellaneous Benefits/Food Allowance: AED 6,300.00.
  • Annual Gratuities: 1/3 of base monthly salary for either Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha, or

For Christmas and Easter Holidays.

  • Annual Housing Allowance: AED 35,000 or for employee who is single, a single room accommodation will be provided by employer.
  • Annual Uniform Allowance: AED 1,470.00.
  • Annual round trip homeward passage ticket/allowance (employee, spouse and up to three children).
  • Medical insurance (employee, spouse, and children).
  • Annual leave (30 days) paid sick leave (13 days) and paid Maternity leave (45 days).
  • Severance Pay in accordance with UAE labor law.
  • Repatriation ticket (if applicable).

This is a vacancy announcement for an Official Residence Expense (ORE) designated position at the Official Residence of U.S. Ambassador to the UAE. (NOTE: ORE employees are neither U.S. government employees nor employees of the U.S. Embassy. They are employees of the principal representative in whose home they work).

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare meals for the Ambassador and his/her family. Prepare sit-down meals for up to 40 guests.  Prepare food for larger buffets and cocktail parties serving up to 120 people or more.
  • Plan menus for parties and weekly meals.
  • Must be familiar with different styles of cooking (e.g., American, Arabic, European, Asian etc.), including seafood preparation.
  • Responsible for the purchase and accounting of groceries, kitchen supplies, and cleaning supplies required for kitchen operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of expenditures and record expenses for representational events.
  • Responsible for kitchen operations, such as cleanliness (e.g., washing dishes, cleaning stoves, cabinets, floors, refrigerators, etc.) as well as for the proper maintenance of kitchen equipment.
  • Assist in polishing all brass, copper, and silver, including silver services in the representational areas of the residence.
  • Assists with general house cleaning when the housemaid is on leave (housemaid has back-up responsibility to help in kitchen during large parties and when the cook is on vacation).
  • When necessary, meet and escort all service staff (i.e., maintenance, catering, etc.) while service staff is in the residence perform repairs and service.
  • Perform small maintenance tasks such a replacing interior light bulbs and exterior security lights within reach.
  • As needed, work overtime in the evening and on weekends.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Note: All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

 

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.  Professional training is required (hotel school, vocational restaurant training majoring in restaurant operations, etc.).

 

Work Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience as a Cook with a history of progressively responsible restaurant work with recognized culinary reputation, including seafood meals preparation.

 

Language: Good working knowledge of English is required.

 

Abilities and Skills: Must be familiar with different styles of cooking (e.g., American, Arabic, European, Asian, etc.), including seafood preparation; must be inventive and flexible; must be able to respect a budget; must be able to adapt or “upgrade” a private meal to an official representational meal with little notice.
